A different picture - part 3

Saturday evening she called home as she used to. She talked with her mother for a while, and when she had her sister on the phone, she asked to have a couple of words with her dad. “Yes, that has to be a couple of words, as we are going to eat now”, her sister said. So, just for making the joke complete; when her father came in the phone she said;

“Hello – and goodbye.”

“ No, my dear, that is not what its called.”

“ oh.. What is it called then?” she asked.

“ Its called; …….Good Day, Thank You, and Farewell…….”

“Yes dad. That’s how it is. I had forgotten, but now I shall remember.”

Then – he hung up the phone.

She thought she should explode. She understood all of a sudden that this was the last time she spoke with him. She sat for several minutes with the phone in her hand, before she put it down. Then she was sitting even longer looking at it. Her whole body wanted to grab the phone and call back. Ask him What this was suppose to mean. But something was holding her back. It was no reason at all for her to make this even more difficult than it already was. This was the last words, and it was as she had said to him; Now she would remember.

The voice she had heard so many times inside her the last year, was now even clearer. “Its enough now. You have to understand now. It has to be like this.”

..but she didn’t want to understand…..

--------

For all the years after, she would come back to this words...

“ Its called; …….Good Day, Thank You, and Farewell…….”

“Yes dad. That’s how it is. I had forgotten, but now I shall remember.”
